At Urban STEAM Lab, every child has the opportunity to explore, create, and inspire. Using their own hands and intuition, children build the skills necessary to become life-long learners and informed, conscientious future leaders.
At Urban STEAM Lab, we are committed to making the sciences accessible for everyone in the community. We offer a variety of services that children, teens, and adults can get involved in!
Our classes and workshops are interactive, hands-on, and project-based. At Urban STEAM Lab, we learn by doing.
Classes meet once per week for 4-6 weeks. Each class series has a theme or topic that we explore over the weeks starting from foundational principles and concepts and progressing with more challenging projects that require the integration of skills picked up over the weeks.
Classes for homeschoolers are also available for kids and parents who want to participate in the same classes, but in a setting that caters to homeschooled students. Make connections with your peers, while exploring the fundamentals of science.
Workshops are one time, 1-2 hours classes. Here, we participate in guided activities that focus more on learning a particular skill rather than a subject or topic as with the classes.
The curriculum for each class/workshop is aligned with current science and math standards adopted by the state of New York, including Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core.
Open Lab (ages 5+) Explore on your terms! Open Lab is a time when Urban STEAM Lab is open to the community. Bring your own project or work on one of the independent learning experiments we’ve crafted for you. Either way, enjoy access to our resources and equipment while collaborating with friends, old and new.
Open Lab: Tiny Scientists (ages 2-5) Let your preschooler explore their senses! Twice a week, Open Lab is available to the tiniest tinkerers. Age-appropriate activities and experiments are set up at different stations around the lab, so your little one can make a mess, learn, and play with the help of an adult in a stress-free environment.
During Open Lab hours, the instructor will be around and available for questions, guidance, and pep talks. Register now or check out the Events Calendar to view Open Lab hours.
Beef up your science unit with a hands-on science experience, and book your next field trip with us! Enjoy a flexible and fun 1.5 hour workshop that starts with a scientific problem, moves into inquiry, and ends with discovery. Field trip workshops are organized into learning-stations where each station adds another piece to the puzzle. Contact us for availability and more information on a custom field trip package.
We are committed accessibility! If you teach at a Title 1 school, we will cover half the cost of your class’s field trip! Please inquire for more details.

Do you have a research paper due and have no (or little) idea where to start? Book a personal crash course that guides you through the the ins and outs of performing and reporting quality research. Together we create an outline of your project from beginning to end with clear instructions on how to proceed through each step in the process. With this option you will learn how to:
Organize and outline your research topic and subtopics
Locate, understand, and evaluate potential sources of information
Take meaningful notes from potential sources
Avoid accidental plagiarism
Formulate a thesis statement, purpose statement, or research question
Draft your final paper
As on add-on service, proofreading options are available once a draft is complete. We correct any spelling or grammar errors and make specific suggestions for areas that can be improved. Proofreading services are also offered á la carte. Contact us to set up a free consultation!
Our classrooms are available for rent by the hour for outside tutors looking for a quiet and professional space for their clients, or for students and their study groups. Classrooms comfortably accommodate up to 12 people and are equipped with a 4’ x 3’ whiteboard and markers.
