Design, develop, & rebuild

Mishap is a fictional world where nothing seems to go according to plan. Help the inhabitants of Mishap by learning to think like engineers and collaborate in an effort to redesign and develop solutions to their real-world problems. Build stronger and dependable structures, prevent natural hazards from becoming natural disasters, and explore the concepts of air pollution and renewable energy to create a more sustainable Mishap.

This is a 6-week, 1.5-hour class series that meets once weekly. Recommended for grades 3-5.

You v. Global Climate Change

What is the greenhouse effect, and what do you have to do with it? Discover how greenhouse gases cause extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and the warming global temperature. Together we model the impact of these changes to our ecosystems, our health, and even our engineering considerations, then learn how to lower our own personal impact on the environment.

This is a 6-week, 1.5-hour class series that meets once weekly. Recommended for grades 3-5.

Codes, Keys, & Ciphers

Learn how to decode secret messages and create your own ciphers! Throughout history, people all over the world have had to figure out creative ways to send top-secret information to their co-conspirators. Each week, we focus a new method for disguising messages (encryption), including Morse code, stenography, and various ciphers, and practice decoding them (decryption).

This is a 6-week, 1.5-hour class series that meets once weekly. Recommended for grades 3-5.

Under the Microscope: Cells & Organelles

Your introduction into microscopy starts here! Become familiar with all the parts of a compound microscope, and learn how to wield your objective lenses with confidence. All the while, we will be using our new tool to investigate the smallest building block of life: the cell. Is the mitochondrion really the powerhouse of the cell? CELL YEAH!

This is a 6-week, 1.5-hour class series that meets once weekly. Recommended for grades 3-5.

One-day Workshops

Science Fair extraordinaire Workshop

This interactive workshop demystifies the steps that go into creating a high-quality science fair project. We begin with breaking down the scientific method and explore different kinds of research questions and research designs. We wrap up with learning to how to display and communicate results. By the end of this 1.5-hour workshop, you’ll have the confidence and know-how to start your project and have fun while doing it.

This is a one-day, 1.5-hour workshop. Recommended for grades 6-8.
